Electric Department

The City purchases the electricity from Westar Energy. The substation is located by the Water Plant at 437 South 5th. The City is responsible for the distribution lines and billing to our customers.

The Electric Department is staffed with three lineman employees. These employees maintain all the power lines for the City of Herington customers. They also upgrade lines, repair outages, trim trees away from power lines, and fix street lights as well as other duties. 

The City is in the process of updating the high Voltage from 2400V to 4160V to improve the power quality. This will take approximately one year to complete the system.
